This isn’t really earth-shattering, but I do want to show off that I (finally!) designed something that worked on the first try. And good thing, too—it was also my first 22-hour print, so I’d have been real sad if the dimensions were too small or something.

Hell yes I use hard drive platters as coasters. What kind of nerd do you take me for?

I gave it a couple of “channels” to hold the cords. The goal is that they can stay in place without the laptop holding them in, so we don’t have to rummage behind the desk when they fall behind it. I put foam stripping inside it to protect the laptops from scratches, and some on the bottom so it doesn’t slide around. All told, I think it was less than 10 minutes of post-processing.

It lives!

Thank you!
The foam is a failed idea, lol. It’s this foam door seals that we bought on accident from Amazon a while ago. Terrible for sealing drafts, but excellent for random projects like this. I just included the thickness of the foam plus a few extra millimeters.

At least, it’s great in theory. The thin contact patch on the plain PLA surface means that we’re always having to push it back into place whenever we take out a laptop. Maybe if I rough up the part or use a wider strip of material, it’ll hold better.
